About Warriors of Jesus
Did you know that God is both a warrior and He is love. We find this contrast in Exodus 15:3 and 1 John 4:8 (NLT)
Ex 15:3, The Lord is a warrior, Yahweh is his name
1 John 4:8 But anyone who does not love does not know God, for God is love
Both warrior and love are action words. As a retired warrior I can tell you that what motivates a true warrior is not violence. What motivates a true warrior is not destruction. What motivates a true warrior is love. When I was serving on active duty in the military what motivated me was love for my country. What motivates God as a true warrior is love for His people.
We have been created in the image of God. As Christians we become a new creation in Christ, therefore, our character becomes the same as God’s character. God’s love and passion for people is passed on to us by the Holy Spirit who lives within us.
As God’s ambassadors in this world we dare not love with a passive love that is not prompted to action. Passive love is not really love at all. A love that stands by while a person who is loved by God is hurt or defiled is not love at all. Passive love is emotionalism or infatuation. It cares more its own needs to feel good rather than the needs of the beloved to be helped, healed and delivered from the cruelties of this world
The love that the Holy Spirit places within us calls out to the warrior that is within us. As Christians we are in a war, we are part of God’s army that is taking back this world for the Kingdom of God (Ephesians 6:10-12 NLT)
10 A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. 12 For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.
Our enemies are not people or circumstances. Our enemy is the evil that resides in this world. Evil that has set itself up against the peaceful rule and reign of our Christ.
This battle happens both in the world around us and within our own hearts.
Every war must have a clear command objective, without a clear objective it is impossible to rally the troops to the cause and the war will be lost. God has given us a clear command objective. It is concise and unalterable.
Our command objective has two legs, both equally important. If we fail to complete either objective, the war within our heart will still go on. We must love God and love others. (Mark 12: 29-31 NLT)
29 Jesus replied, “The most important commandment is this: ‘Listen, O Israel! The Lord our God is the one and only Lord. 30 And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength.’ 31 The second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ No other commandment is greater than these.”
Our weapons in this war are superior to the weapons of the enemy. (see Ephesians 6, not quoted) Each weapon was designed to give us the distinct advantage in combat, we are in this war to win, not to be fair. Our God has been slandered to long by the father of lies. Our people have been oppressed to long by these evil spirits in heavenly places. It’s time we pull down these strongholds that keep our loved ones and neighbors captive.
The first weapon that We have is the belt of truth, the enemy has only lies. Lies are from the enemy, he is the father of lies, when we breathe a lie we are using his weapon and we cannot win. You can only win by keeping the truth on your lips. Sometimes truth humbles us because we have to admit wrongdoing. Jesus is the truth and we speak Jesus. We are not ashamed of the name of Jesus. It comes easily to our lips as a blessing, not as a curse word. For at the name of Jesus is mighty to save us from the enemy.
We have the body armor of righteousness, the enemy has only corruption. Doing what is right is very rarely the easy road. But doing what is right protects our heart from the corruption of this world. Corrupt things have no life, they rot. Things that are done in righteousness lead to life and health. I have been told by this world that there is no right and wrong. This is the lie of the enemy. If you want to know what is right and what is wrong, read the scriptures. Listen to the Holy Spirit within you. Here are a few examples of what the Bible says are wrong: Lying, stealing, murder, sex outside of marriage, greed, hatred, rage, and gossiping to name only a few. But if we follow and practice righteousness, the wrong things of this life won’t get past this protective covering. If we practice truth, honesty, fidelity, generosity, love, compassion and uplifting, among other things, we won’t have a place in our heart for the darkness of this world.
Our shoes are the gospel of peace, the enemy only has turmoil. God has declared peace toward men. When we endeavor to bring peace to those around us, we are continuing the message of the angels at Jesus birth, “Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace, good will on those whom his favor rest.” Our message is a simple one, “God so loved the world that he sent his one and only son that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” That is our mission, to declare peace with God throughout the world.
We have the shield of faith, the enemy only has fear. Fear only last for a moment, love last forever. Faith is the absolute trust and reliance on the love of God. When we exercise faith, nothing can shake our determination in the battle. There will be no circumstance or person who can make us waiver in our battle position. Use your shield of faith to protect not only yourself, but those around you. Uphold the weak in spirit by the power of the Holy Spirit who resides in you. If you lack faith in God, If you are have a hard time trusting him completely and relying on his strength to be your strength the ask Him for more faith, He will give it to you generously
Our heads are covered with the helmet of salvation, the enemy has nothing to protect his head, only condemnation. His head was crushed at the cross (Genesis 3:15 not quoted). Our salvation is secure (Romans 8:35-39)
35 Can anything ever separate us from Christ’s love? Does it mean he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death? 36 (As the Scriptures say, “For your sake we are killed every day; we are being slaughtered like sheep.”) 37 No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us.
38 And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. 39 No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Our best weapon is the sword of the Holy Spirit, The enemy only has a condemned spirit. God’s word is not only the scriptures but what he is saying to each of us today through his Holy Spirit. God didn’t quit talking when the scriptures were complete. The scriptures are the gold standard by which all other words of the Lord are measured for integrity. Scripture is to be read and studied and meditated on. The Holy Spirit will speak to us clearly as we read scripture. But scripture cannot contain every word of God, after all “Jesus also did many other things. If they were written down I suppose the whole world could not contain the books that would be written.” John 21:25 NLT. God is still living and active amongst his people today. He still speaks to us by his Holy Spirit. (John 16:5-15 not quoted)
God’s word will defeat even the cleverest scheme of the enemy to defeat us. We once again have to use faith to believe that what God says he will do.
The last weapon in our arsenal is the first one to be used, Prayer. I will wait for a later post to cover this most vital weapon
